Intense Battle
I don't know how many battle themes we'll need, but I figured another
one wouldn't hurt so I whipped something up (it's not finished). After all, it would be nice to have a specific battle
theme for each area so the player isn't hearing the same battle music
from the beginning of the game to the end.
Anyway, it's in the dropbox. Thoughts? Opinions?

Sounds great! The only problem I have with it, and this seems to apply to many of the songs in the dropbox, is that you seem to be using techno instruments. Shouldn't the instruments match the fantasy-medieval theme? Or at least not be techno?
Just my thoughts.

Re: Intense Battle
I was thinking an old-school JRPG theme. A lot of the stuff in the dropbox has a 16-bit style. I personally like the style we have now, mixing 16-bit sounding synths with some modern-day stuff.
I'm liking this track. Nice metal rhythm. Can't say I like the chorus (or 2nd part - whatever). How about making two of these synths (or add another with a slightly different tone) harmonize after a loop or two?

George: Yeah, I'm thinking along the same lines of Rheet. If you think about it, older 8-bit music was just basic synths. Besides, there's not much room to play with middle-age instruments. All you really have to work with are drums (and not even a snare mind you, the closest thing at the time was called a tabor), some stringed instruments like mandolins and fiddles, plenty of flutes and woodwinds, and horns. Using modern synths allows for much more complex and interesting sounds.
Rheet: Yeah the 2nd part is kind of weird. I want to re-do it, but stray away from the first melody completely. I'll try harmonizing the first melody as well.

Also, will the part at the beginning be part of the loop, or just an intro as the game transitions to the battle? I was thinking the other day that we should make some of these transitions, and I'm assuming the programmer(s) will play whatever file in a loop. If that's part of the song, this is irrelevant, if it's a transition, I'd think it would be best to separate that as another file.

You're right on the money, it's a transition. Wasn't sure whether these should be in the actual songs or not. I guess that's something we should discuss that during Wednesday's meeting. For now I'll leave it in since it's easy to just cut it out.
By the way, I changed up the instrument selection a little, it now sounds a little more like a guitar than a screechy synth. Also got rid of the other melody. Check it out, I just put it in the dropbox a minute ago (same file name).
